Warning! Dressing Your Child in Gingham Will Give Them a Lifelong Love.

August 19th, 2011

My love affair with all things check and gingham began when I was a child. Mom believed in siblings wearing matching clothes- how else were people suppossed to know we had the same parents? Forget the fact that I was girl and they were boys, she made this light blue gingham dress for me with a flower embroidery on the chest. The boys had matching blue gingham shirts which thankfully was missing the embroidery. It was one of those dresses that had a huge twirl factor. Fast forward a few decades and I am still in love with gingham.

I did have a hiatus some 5 years ago when I studied interior design, at that time I did my project in a contemporary, zen-like design style- I have no idea why, then again maybe I was stressed, who knows!

I have no daughters but instead I’m blessed with 4 adorable boys, but if I had a daughter I’ll dress her up in this sweet blue dress from our friends at www.bellabliss.com, where you can even have your dresses monogrammed. I love the check (of course) love the fact that it is blue- helps if you have a tomboy but you want to keep her as a girl and I love the playfulness it offers.

This would also explain why my love for gingham has extended into my home. Gingham duvet covers, gingham lampshades, gingham curtains, all nicely toned down with coordinating solids and stripes.

Are you a gingham lover like me or do you prefer solids?

Staying Connected

April 14th, 2011

I had a dream just the other night about a dear Aunt. Somehow we had managed to go a couple of years without so much as a phone call- nothing ontoward had happened, just the ebbs and flows of life. You can imagine my surprise when she called me out of the blue, 2 years after we last spoke. She said I had been on her mind. All I could do was wish that I had called first as it sounded rather lame to say ” I dreamt about you last night, I was going to call you today” or “actually, you were on my mind too!” Does that ever happen to you?

I have decided (rather belatedly) to stay better conected with friends and family. It is so easy to allow facebook, twitter and the likes to replace loving family relatonships -having my cousins on facebook and posting the customary, annual “happy birthday“, along with that pink, 2-tiered cake with yellow candles everybody uses doesn’t really do our relationship justice. So it is more phone calls for me from now on and perhaps even more visits- then again maybe no visits yet, we’ll do it one step at a time!

While on the subject of staying connected, we would like to be connected with you too. Why not “like” us on facebook and follow us on twitter? We have some exciting changes coming your way; like our spruced up website with some simply fabulous new products, coming soon. We are also going to begin competitions and giveaways in the 1st week in May, you don’t want to miss that!

Wall Decor with Clout!

June 6th, 2010

We have tried really hard to keep still until this stunning line arrives at our online store, but we can’t any longer.

Our new wall decor is a range of stunning, playful but modern stickers and wall murals that enable you to dress up your child’s bedroom wall in an instant. The range is literally endless as our in house artists can custom design a theme for you too. We love the owls because owls are currently “in” and the wall stickers are just too cute!

Enhance Your Space

May 19th, 2010

In room design you introduce colours and schemes that you prefer, but you can visually increase the size of the room too.

Choosing pale colours over darker ones is one example. Neutral, pastel or white gives the illusion that the walls are farther away than they actually are, Light bounces off the walls to increase the amount of light the room receives and thereby making it airier and more spacious.

Pastel Paints

If you like wallpaper, choose one with a simple pattern, or with tiny motifs. The larger patterns tend to give the appearance of there being more items in the room, which will give a small room a cluttered feeling. The alternative is to have one accent wall with the busy wall paper or the darker paint colour.

We like the Happy Tree Farm Wall Mural, new and exclusive to Punkin Patch

The same rule of thumb applies to bedding and furniture. The simpler they are, the more spacious the room feels. We love the Jackson Headboard, available in a range of fabrics and with your child’s initial embroidered on.

Old Decor Meets New

April 26th, 2010

Very often we are asked to design a bedroom or nursery by mixing the old and the new. You may want to do this for a variety of reasons; keeping heirloom or beloved pieces of furniture, or simply having a preference for the eclectic look.

Eclectic decor can either be seen as easy, because there are no rules or as difficult because it still has to look good!

This can be achieved in more ways than one. The key is to have a common theme running through the pieces, in the form of color palette, shape or style. We chose color.

Bedroom Design: Old Meets New

Bedroom Design: Old Meets New

Vintage

Our vintage choices in this style-file are the Ticket to Ride Bedding collection and the Acorn Chandelier.

This Boys bedding set is made up of fabrics which combine textures and patterns to form a yummy look. We LOVE the vintage pillow sham made a fabric pattern of authentic train tickets which are old and worn. This made to order set like most of our bedding is available in all sizes, accessories like drapery and blinds are available too.

The Acorn chandelier is a classic, handpainted one, gentle rubbing and crackled paint gives it the vintage feel. The chandelier shades can be made in a smart stripe fabric, or we can go completely retro by using the Ticket to Ride fabric. Either way, it works handsomely!

Modern

Our modern choice is the Ricky Bed. We LOVE the upholstered head and foot board, which comes in a fabric of your choice, why not use your bedding fabric? This bed is available in all sizes and in a wide range of colors. The shades on the chandelier can also be a smart modern choice of stripe or plain fabrics.

Finishing Touch:

Our designer picked this adorable stretched art canvas to make it all ‘pop’;

Baby Addison Claire’s Nursery

February 24th, 2010

We were given the task to create a bedding set in the colors of green, lilac and brown. We love challenges!!!!

Brittany already had an idea of what she wanted, but we had the task of bringing it to life. The walls are painted in large stripes of alternating shades of lilac.

Inside Bumper with Initials embroidered on.

The outside print fabric for the bumper was picked by Brittany and one of our designers. To soften the effect of the print and the lilac walls, we chose to have the inside of the bumper in a thin stripe lilac, and the baby’s initials embroidered against a textured white. The embroidery was done in matching green tying the outside and inside of the bumper together.

The crib sheet is in a minky lilac fabric. Incredibly soft for baby.

The dust skirt is in the textured white and is finished off just below the bar in a lilac stripe fabric.

We love the way the light colored fabrics form a stark contrast against the furniture. For similar furniture, why not take a look here.

The Chenille Braided rug was Brittany’s idea, and we also have it here in a range of colors and sizes.

To get your room looking like Brittany’s, or to transform your ideas into reality, please contact us at design@punkin-patch.com. Even if all you have in mind is a color, we’ll be happy to do the rest.
